There should be at least 24" of clearance between the cooking surface and a protected surface above (Fig. 1), or at least 30" of clearance between the cooking surface and an unprotected surface above (Fig. 2). (If the protected surface is a microwave hood combination, manufacturer's specifications may dictate a smaller clearance.) (Fig. 3 -4)
